Have you searched THIS FORUM for your problem: Yes
(if not please do before posting)
If so, what terms did you try: IP Blocking
Write your message below:
How do you block an abusive GB user by their IP address ?
I could have sworn that I found info posted about IP Blocking in the past, but I couldn't find anything this time.
I tried to see if I could simply add an abuser's IP Address to the 'CHECKMAIL' email list, but it didn't appear to work.
(I tried tested it using my own IP address, but I could stiil make an entry.)
I know you should be able to block users from your web site entirely by using an 'HTACCESS' file, but it would be nice to be able to just block entries to the guestbook.

Suggestion to add user friendly Email & IP Blocking
Oops, I just found the IP Blocking info I was looking for under "Block Email'.
Unfortunately, the IP Blocking info is more extensive and confusing than the Email Blocking info.
I probably would have scrapped guest books altogether if I hadn't researched your user forum to find how to customize settings & gbook files to block specific automated abusers. (ie. antony@gmail.com !)
Your GuestBook would be more user friendly (and would eliminate related user forum research that inexperienced users won't bother with) if you added the ability to block specific abusers by simply adding email and/or IP entries in appropriate sections in the settings.php file.

The mentioned line numbers can be different because of added code in newer versions of the gbook.php file.
