The End...

Post by cwshubby »

I am wondering if anyone is willing to take on the future updates for M4H to work with future updates of Hesk.

I assume that if no one does take on the job, then we would compare a virgin copy of the code from the previous version to the new version to find out what we need to change?

I'm not sure if Mike plans to update Mods for Hesk for version 2.8.5 (hope he does).

In any case, 2.8.5 is the last planned release of 2.x versions. Hesk 3.x will not be directly compatible with Mods for HESK.

Hesk 2.x.x will be kept supported and receive security/bug fixes. When a new version of Hesk is released, there is also a "unified diff" file available of all the changes, see the bottom of this announcement:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6486

You can use the diff file to track/make changes in your help desk using Git for example.

There are plans to support HESK 2.8.5. I do not have an immediate ETA as to when the update will be released (I'm trying to batch in some MfH bugfixes in the next release as well), as I'm quite busy with many things at the moment

After the next MfH release (2020.1.0), this will be the final planned Mods for HESK release (from my point; anyone else is free to extend/modify it as they wish). This will line up with future HESK 2.x.x releases.

I hope the release of Hesk 3.0 will include the benefits of M4H that many love :) (hint hint)

Mkoch227, Thank you for the releases and improvements you have done. We here process on average 500 tickets a month using Hesk and it has been great.

Just learning of this now...A little shell-shocked to say the least. But it happens. I don't run code that is not in active development so I'm goin back to stock Hesk until/if I see someone pick up or fork this code. They're saying Hesk as a big surprise coming but no news yet...We'll see.

You may want to wait just a little bit more, the news is coming out mid-February

Keep in mind that you are using free software and that Mike and I work on it in our free time.

If you want more predictability, reliability, features, and support, consider switching to a different solution.

I don't mean to sound unappreciative; I just wish this would get forked and a wider contribution base was formed. I find most other solutions, including the one affiliated with Hesk, totally out-of-reach financially as most using hesk probably do. Hence why we're on hesk to begin with.

The whole implication we should be excited of an upcoming announcement is not a positive thing in my opinion. I'm not excited, I'm worried. And I don't think that feeling is unjustified here.

In light of yesterdays news and as a sign of encouragement and good faith, I just purchased a HESK license.

Now to uninstall M4H and upgrade to 3.0...Hopefully it looks something like 2.8.4 for M4H ;)

Thanks - you see not all news are bad

No need to rush uninstalling MfH. We will probably be releasing an update in the following weeks to fix initial issues discovered by HESK 3 users. Also, note that HESK 3 is just a user interface update and it does not have all the features of MfH yet; those will be added gradually.

Already done! First off, thanks for the new version it looks great!

I can create a separate post if you prefer... I believe I've followed the instructions properly to uninstall m4h and then upgraded to 3.0.

Everything else seems to be working except when I look at a ticket in 3.0 that was created under m4h with HTML all the code is showing and it's one big block so it's nearly unreadable. Any suggestions as to a fix or should I go back to 2.8.4 w/m4h?

Switching back to MfH won't convert the tickets back to HTML, as the indicator to display a message as HTML was lost during the uninstallation process.

You can either restore a database backup that was taken prior to uninstalling MfH, or wait for a tool to convert those tickets to plain text, as I mentioned to another user on Twitter.
