Can't delete message; how to upgrade

Have you searched THIS FORUM for your problem: yes
(if not please do before posting)
If so, what terms did you try: delete message, upgrade

Write your message below: While my board is up to message number 269, it just got a reply to message number 3 which is no longer displayed but available by typing th URL in address bar. Unfortunately the message was inappropriate. I tried to delete it by clicking the red X and entering my password. This technique has worked in the past. I received a message saying to chmod the parent message number 3 to 666. So I did, then tried deleting again. My screen said I successfully deleted the message.

I type in the URL and the message appears. HIt refresh; it is still there. I am on broadband and have instructed browser to display a new page every time.

I go into file manager online and delete text of message. Type new message in its place. Save it. Go to URL. The same old message is there.

So I go back to online file manager and delete the whole message. Finally it is gone!

QUESTION: Now. I have downloaded version 1.21

But the readme does not contain upgrade info. How do I go about upgrading and not loosing formatting and current messages?

Hello,

To delete the message you may FTP to your server and find the inappropriate message in the "msg" folder inside your "mboard" folder and just delete it via FTP.

To upgrade to 1.21 you should first BACKUP your current mboard files then upload all files EXCEPT:

count.txt
footer.txt
header.txt
threads.txt
style.css
and don't edit anything within the "msg" folder.

This way you will keep all the current posts and style. Don't forget to set the new settings.php file!
