i am not able to login to the hesk helpdesk as admin. (this is the only login)

i tried changing the password within phpMyAdmin using MD5 .. i get locked out and have to try every hour...
Is the ONLY option to delete the entire directory along with the database and start over?? Is this a common occurrence for hesk to be hacked?

Who told you to use a MD5 string in phpMyAdmin? It's not what HESK uses and by modifying the password in phpMyAdmin to a MD5 string you just messed whatever password was set and made it unusable.

Go back to phpMyAdmin and change password to Then you should be able to login using your Username and this password: admin
