Hi, I am using the counter, and it is great. I am wondering if there is a way to modify the initial count?

Emm, have you even looked at the admin panel

? You have a "Start counting from" field when adding links and to edit existing links just click the "E" button next to the link you want to edit and you can change the clicks number.

I feel really stupid here, but how do I get to the admin panel?
I have read and reread your directions and am at a loss about this panel.

Are you sure you are using CLICK counter? If yes the index.php file is admin panel.

If you are using HIT (VISITOR) counter thoguh that one doesn't have an admin panel, but you can edit count by editing text log files directly inside the "logs" folder.
