I have installed the files and am able to access the admin and set up a link.

I am trying to count hits on a image - that links to an external website.

Specifically, hits on: http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/i ... tveilp.gif
which should link to the website www.aperfectveil.com

When I set up the link, I replaced link on the image from :www.aperfectveil.com to: the link generated by ccount (ending in id=)

BUT, when I now click on the image - it links me to the file of the image (http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/i ... tveilp.gif) instead of the intended website: aperfectveil.com

I'm going in a crazy circle. Please help.

CCount will send you to the URL you set in the admin panel. You set the URL of the link to be http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/i ... tveilp.gif that's why it's taking you there.

Set the URL to the WEBSITE URL (http://www.aperfectveil.com in your case), not the IMAGE URL.
