That's good news, thanks to all three for the feedback. I have the next version of GBook in test phase now, will include the extra SPAM protection from the test version above plus a few extra features.

Suggestion

Post by zztopbanana »

Hello,

I am a recent user of this script and it is great - I had to take my old guestbook (Openbook) down when it was targeted by spammers as there were no security measures at all, other than deleting the entries.

[PART REMOVED BY KLEMEN]

May I make a further couple of suggestions for consideration for future revisions ?

This script is superb - I have tweaked the background, colours and font sizes etc to enhance readability;

I am not David Traynor, by the way.

Thanks a lot,

Hi,

What you suggested is already included in the "JunkMark(tm)" SPAM filter of GBook, along with many other checks. In 1.35 setting junkmark_limit must be 50 to block that, but the next version will block that with setting 60 because of some other changes and new restrictions to GBook.

By the way, I removed a part of your post to make sure any (potential) SPAMMERS reading this post don't know exactly what we are talking about. The less they know about how GBook protection works, the better for all users :wink:

And yes, suggestions always welcome, there is a "GBook Mods, Add-ons, Suggestions, ..." forum:
viewforum.php?f=3

Hello,

That's OK I wasn't aware it was already catered for and there are no probs with editing the post - sounds sensible to me.

I don't know about others, but I sleep like this:

Code: Select all

<?php
echo "Going to sleep...\n";
sleep(10);
echo "Ahh, much better now!\n";
?>

:lol:

delayed posting of entries in Gbook

Post by opus_two »

Can I setup delayed postings into my guestbook? Meaning that when someone posts a comment in the guestbook I have to approve it before it goes public

I noticed that there's a new version... good, as it is time to update I think.
Looks like they found a hole in the protection again.

Didn't get any Spam before today (using 1.41), today there were a couple of them popping up again.
All different IP's and different email address, just seems like they use yahoo.com domain now.

I'll update to 1.42 later today and see what happens :wink:

Can you PM me a sample of the SPAM with all details (name, url, comment, IP, ...)?

Bascially the message was a simple "Hello" or "Many Thanks".
I'll try to be more specific the next time we get these.
Normally we just remove them asap.

I did write down a few of the email adresses and IP's.
Unfortunatly I forgot to bring them from the office, but I'll get back to you on that tomorrow (in 12 hours or so).

When I compared 1.42 with the 1.41 we are using now I didn't see much difference between the two gbook.php files.
Changes must be somewhere else I guess.

There isn't much difference between 1.41 and 1.42, two things changed were somewhat improved bad words filter code and changed navigation through GBook pages.

Send me the spam if you continue to get it. Also make sure you have junkmark limit set to at least 70 and I would suggest disabling posting URLs.
