Error Can't connect to database!

What terms did you try when SEARCHING for a solution: searched this forum and search engines.
Version of script: HESK version 3.1.2
Hosting company: Hostgator

I am getting the error "Can't connect to database!". no changes were done, this message just appeared on admin and on all hesk directory pages.
After enabling debug mode i get this message:
Error
Can't connect to database!
MySQL said:
(2054) The server requested authentication method unknown to the client
WARNING
Debug mode is enabled. Make sure you disable debug mode in settings once HESK is installed and working properly.

I appreciate any info on how to solve this.

Issue solved by updating php version.

Glad to hear upgrading PHP worked. Do you remember what PHP version you were using before?
