FYI, re spam and email

Post by dreblow »

I have been running this script since 2011 without any problems. I discovered that
sometime in August it stopped sending my approve email messages. Through a series
of efforts to isolate the problem, including upgrading to the newest version, I learned
that my ISP (Ipower) started using a multi-ISP spam rating system and the script,
gbook.php has a high possible spam score and I was being blocked at their edge email
process.

So, while they reset my spam score and the sending of mail started working again,
I needed a way to keep this from happening again. My ISP offered no way to
whitelist the script on their edge server. I am posting this because I read through
many forum messages and there are many people struggling with the email part
of the script.

While contacting the ISP, certainly worked, I ended up changing the name of the
script and editing all the relevant other php files to use a different file name.
Hopefully this won't happen to me again, and hopefully I might save someone else
the multi-week struggle I went through to solve this issue.

Thanks for sharing.

I don't know why GBook from PHPJunkad would have a high spam score, the ONLY way it sends emails is to the admin email hard-coded in the settings file.
