Information to share: a good cron job service
Hi folks,
I'm using HESK's POP3 fetching to retrieve emails into support tickets and wanted to check for new messages every minute. My webhost, GoDaddy, allows a maximum frequency of only every 30 minutes on my shared hosting plan and I didn't want to upgrade to a dedicated server, so I looked online for alternate services.
There are several services available. Most offer some type of free plan and paid plans with more options. One is free (onlinecronjobs.com) but just their signup process errored out (I tried twice) so it didn't give me confidence. A few had poor English and I shy away from sites that don't seem professional.
I went with SetCronJob.com and selected the least-expensive paid plan, currently $10/year for up to 3,600 cron runs per day. It has several good options, was a seamless signup, and is working perfectly. The one thing I don't like is that they (without asking or notifying me in advance) set my PayPal payment as an automatically renewing subscription. I did receive confirmation emails from PayPal and SetCronJob informing me of the auto-renewal.
I'm not associated with them -- just want to contribute and hopefully save you some time.
Hope this helps.
FOLLOW-UP: I've been using the SetCronJob.com service for about a week now and it's working fine. I've contacted the site twice, once for help and once to provide feedback and both times the site owner/webmaster (one-man shop) replied with friendly help.
