Recently, inserting canned messages into responses has stopped working. This only happens in firefox and works fine in Chrome. Any clues?

One of the recent canned responses has probably messed up Javascript.

Are you typing canned responses in another program (like Word) then pasting them into HESK? There is a known bug with a special line separator char doing something like this that has been fixed for the next version.

If you are willing to give me access to your admin panel I can have a look to confirm and fix.

hmm, I looked at the canned responses through phpmyadmin and saw nothing unusual. Perhaps you will have a better eye for it.
