Spam Problem

Hello,

first of all thanks for the fre script, works very well.

Since last month I got a huge spamming attack, I have to clean the book each day cause its filled with 3-10 spam messages like "visit this URL" with some porn and stuff. Any idea how I can avoid this? Looks like its some kind of bots doing this. Very sad.

Why have you disabled the SPAM filter? It is there to block bots from posting! Sorry for the "test" post

In your settings.php change

$settings['autosubmit']=0;

back to

$settings['autosubmit']=1;

That should make you a happier GBook user. Some further discussion about SPAM:

In the descriptions i can read:
Is your current guestbook full of SPAM? Not with GBook, it has an in-built protection against guestbook SPAM and even encodes e-mail addresses to prevent SPAM harvesters from finding them.

But that is not correct because i get around 15 per day in matter of i have update the badwordfiles every week.

I AM TIRED of all this spam in my guestbook - how can i stop it ???

You have the same problem as the original poster of this topic (your SPAM filter is disabled), please read my first reply again and do as instructed.

Two more things:

1. You have changed the powered by statement to
"Powered by Free PHP guestbook 1.2 NetShop 4 All"
You are NOT allowed to change it without a license! Please put it back like it originally way.

2. UPDATE your Gbook to 1.33!

I have just updated my gbook to version 1.34 and now all my comments is changed to private post - why???? - how do i change it back to normal????

Private messages problem: try changing the $settings['system'] to 1 or 2 (if you have 1 change to 2 if you have 2 change to 1)

SPAM: if the person actually visits your website and enters the security code there is no way to stop them. Most spammers use software to submit hundreds of guestbooks at once and the spam check prevents it.
