Post by webforu »

I have done everything I think I am supposed to, well hadmy partner do the chmod thing because I really had no idea what all that meant, and I am still getting this message when I try to post a link:

ERROR

Couldn't open links file for writing! Please CHMOD all txt files to 666 (rw-rw-rw)!

Please help me with any help, I am desperately wanting this cool script to work for me. If you want to see the site I am putting it on, http://www.one-stop-candle-shop.com/links.html

Hi,

You didn't set correct file permissions to links.txt file-

Please read
http://phpjunkyard.com/developers/viewtopic.php?t=26
which explains how to do a CHMOD (it is for GBook, but LinkMan is the same, just different file name).

Well I use Ws_FTP LE and I right clicked on the file and clicked on CHMOD and make sure they were checked in the read and write, isnt that it? Buit it appears my problem is I am windows and the permissions are not sticking. I have sent in a trouble ticket with my host company to see if I am missing somethign on that end. :) I will keep you posted as I really badly wanted to use your script, it was perfect for what I needed. :)

Hi,

CHMOD won't work on WIndows servers, true.

See if you have a folder called "cgi-bin" or "cgi" on your server. If you do try installing Linkman there. Many Windows hosting companies set the required permissions inside the "cgi-bin" folder.
