Call to undefined function gzinflate()

Post by noonespecial »

Script URL: zenwerx.zxq.net/mboard
Version of script: mboard13
Hosting company: zymic.com
URL of phpinfo.php: zenwerx.zxq.net/mboard/phpinfo.php
URL of session_test.php: zenwerx.zxq.net/mboard/session_test.php
What terms did you try when SEARCHING for a solution: "Call to undefined function gzinflate()"

Write your message below:

I am getting the following "Fatal Error"

Call to undefined function gzinflate() in /www/zxq.net/z/e/n/(mysite)/htdocs/mboard/mboard.php on on line 760
(and line 875)

My search revealed: "Is a server issue causing the error, your server is missing the standard php compile install of zlib."

When I asked hosting support they said that zlib would allow anyone to upload any file extension. I'm not sure what difference that makes but I assume it is a security issue on a free hosting server.

Is there any work around for this?

Thanking you in advance,

"they said that zlib would allow anyone to upload any file extension"

Not true at all. This means your hosting company either doesn't know what Zlib is or they made this up hoping it will silence you.

Unfortunately Zlib is required for most phpjunkyard.com scripts and most hosting companies have Zlib enabled in PHP. If your host doesn't want to enable it I would recommend searching for a more customer-friendly host. If you are paying for PHP support they should support all common PHP functions and extensions.

Your assertion is as I suspected. I also suspect that there is the possibility that the "support" person that I talked to didn't know beans from bananas  .

The server in question is a "free" hosting service with volunteer support on an open IRC channel. So, it is difficult to know exactly who you are talking to and what credentials they have.

My main site is on a pay server host. I use the free server for overflow. I simply moved the forum to the pay site and everything works beautifully! I am quite proud of my new forum and thank you very much for coding it and making it available for free.

I hope to add an article on my site soon featuring your scripts. Living on disability makes money tight and my site being new hasn't generated any income yet. And I am trying to provide free services while asking for donations. So, advertising your scripts is the best I can do right now.

That and a humble "Thank you very much".
