How to Recover Administrator Password

Post by ugogo.info »

Script URL: http://ftp.cyberachievers.biz/static/support/
Version of script: 0.94.1
Hosting company: server4u
URL of phpinfo.php:
URL of session_test.php:
What terms did you try when SEARCHING for a solution:

Lost administrator password
lost password
recover administrator password
admin password
administrator password

Write your message below:

Hi - I think weve been hacked cos our clients administrator password no longer works after nearly 2 years of using it.

I'm not an IT person and would appreciate some help how to find out what the new password is - there doesn't seem to be a password recovery link on the login page.

I need to upgrade their old version to the latest one, but also need to make sure they answered the latest tickets!

Their server host does not have a cpanel function so I have to figure out how to get the password via the db, I think???

Cannot see it on the config file.

I'd appreciate any help possible. Thanks!

Well the troubleshooter is still in Beta mode, it will probably be included in one of the future versions.

Wow Klemen, I think the only thing that can limit the functionality of your trouble shooter script is the imagination of the person setting it up. It's very nice, clean and easy just like your hesk help desk script.

Hi again

I finally found time to go fix the lost admin password as mentioned above. I went to the trouble shooter and clicked can't login to admin, and the previous tutorial you ad there seems to have been removed.

It now says:
"

» I cannot login to the admin panel

After installing HESK you should be able to login with the default password: admin

If you keep getting a Your session has expired error your server could be having problems with sessions. Download Session test files, upload them to your server and open session_test.php in your browser.

Click the CLICK HERE FOR PAGE 2 link. If you get "$_SESSION['test'] is set to: FALSE" contact your hosting company and ask them to check why PHP sessions aren't working normally. If you get TRUE instead of FALSE the problem is something else, try searching for help PHPJunkyard Support forum.

Still having problems?

Try other troubleshooter steps or visit PHPJunkyard support forum (username and password: php) where you can search for existing solutions to problems and post questions."
Please help, thanks!

OK I see the problem, I clicked the wrong thing.

For those who need to reset your admin password, when you go to the trouble shooter link above, don't choose:

I cannot login to the admin panel

Insead, choose:

I forgot my login password

You'll find the solution there.

Thanks!

Just a quick follow up on this - the session cookie's are not working properly as per the trouble shooter guide mentioned in the above message.

So as per instructions in the above message, I approached my host to find out why the session cookie's were not working properly. My host repsonded saying they don't offer any support for the server I hired!

They don't even offer cpanel access or any tools at all that a non-technical person like me could use to do my own maintenance!!

This is not the first time I've had this type of reaction from my server host. Well, needless to say I promptly found another host here in South Africa. I've used this second host for a different cient, and they are superb. They not only give full support at no extra cost, but provide cpanel AND a whole bunch of open source scripts that can be installed at any time.

Anyway, if you are in South Africa and having a similar problem to me with session cookies not working on the server, or something similar and as a result you can't manage your Hesk script, and if your host is not offering you any solutions, then you probably need a better server host who can help you with this type of problem, PM me. I'll send you the link.

Some Tips for newbies like me, when finding hosts and using open source scripts; make sure the host offers these services:

1. Full and prompt support - tickets and forums are usually the norm. I don't mean scripting, I mean helping you solve problems as per this issue. "Prompt" means a reply within 1 business day.

2. Find out if they charge extra for support or if its included with your hosting fee.

3. Make sure they have all the latest and up to date requirements of the scripts you are installing, e.g. php, msqul, linux etc.

4. Find out if they keep those scripts updated for you when latest versions come out or if you have to update them.

5. Find out about server backup - who does it, you or them? if they do it, how often and where is it stored?

If anyone else has any further help you can offer please add it here. I'm so tired of being messed around by my existing host and i am sure there must be others who experience the same thing.

Unfortunately many hosts are like that. Before I started setting up things myself and renting dedicated servers I tried several hosts. Among the large companies I was pleased the most with HostGator - that's why I have their affiliate links up, and not from other hosts (even if they offer twice as commission).

Thank you to both Klemen and ugogo.info!

I've been trying to customise my school's Hesk helpdesk and suddenly my admin access was removed! The troubleshooter, along with ugogo's comment about selecting lost password was the solution.

Thanks again.
