I used FileZilla (which I've used for years) and I uploaded the img dir and the rest of the files in ACSII or BINARY as per the readme.

I'll PM you some FTP info and if you can check it out I'd be greatful. If I can get this working it'll be going on a few sites and a beer or two will be coming your way.

Call me crazy :-)

This is a shot in the dark but could it be the front page extentions that is causing this? both these servers listed here on the form as having problems seem have this in common, plus I have seen FP extens cause all types of problems as they can play havoc from what I have seen with the htaccess files on a server.

This problem is odd and I never ever had a problem like this and I never had FP extens on any of my servers so it got me thinking ...

You have ... FrontPage/5.0.2.2635

I have noted you can access some .txt files but any php based file in the links dir fails to parse correctly.

This loads fine same dir dif exten html works php fails.

DC thanks for the suggestion.

I uninstalled FPEx through WHM and still seem to get the same error.

Was a thoght as you both have that one thing in common, ok do you have any hidden htaccess files that it could have written to as i said I have seen some strange things happen with FP oytherwise I am not sure whats going on as that is a very odd problem only a few report and I see it only does this to php files in the test I ran ...

Ok one last quick test if you write a simple PHP file with the following ...

<?php echo "Can You Read Me ..."; ?>

Does it print out?

can you add this test file to the links dir and your main dir

you can call it test.php

Let us know what happens.
Otherwise maybe when Klem has a look he can solve the mystery.

Thanks for the FTP access.

I found the problem. Kind of, I'm still not sure if it's with the Zlib library or with some other software installed on the server. But the important thing is I found a way around. So anyone having this problem after installing LinkMan upload these files over the original ones:

links.php Question marks

Post by maxpower »

Hi Klemen,

I'm having problems too with your linkman. I installed all files in ASCII except img in binary as you instructed. I set all file permissions as instructed. I have confiugred settings.

- I use Webhost Australia
- I used filezilla 3.2.4.1 to upload linkman files
- Using Unix servers
- downloaded your program V1.7 from php junkyard, so its authentic
- I have read, re-read and re-read instructions and re-installed 3 times.

Each time I get the links.php page full line of question marks. Also the addlink.php page after using the form.

This is my website: www.zone54.com.au/linkman/links.php

However when I go www.zone54.com.au/linkman with no further text in the url, just linkman folder, the site redirects to links.php page and shows question marks again.

I notice you asking people about phpinfo.php file? I don't have one in the linkman folder.

Please are you able to suggest any probable cause of this problem?

Have yo tried with these files instead like mentioned in the previous post?

The phpinfo.php file can be downloaded from the "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING A NEW QUESTION!!" thread at the top of the LinkMan forum.

My apologies Klemen, you must get losers like me all the time. I spent hours looking through all this and missed the most obvious details. I actually read all the first page of this post but not the second. And I read the sticky by just 'glossing' over.

Ok, new file seems to work well!

www.zone54.com.au/linkman/session_test.php
www.zone54.com.au/linkman/phpinfo.php

The tests seem to be ok.

Thankyou for your help :D

Klem I see many having this problem now, is there not a way to just go back to the original version of the offendiing code? as I can tell you this problem did not seem to be in 1.6 at all.
I think it only weared its ugly head in 1.7 if I am not mistaken ... my reason for asking is it seems it would just be a lot easier for the users and us if there was one totally compatable version out there insted of the fix that must be applied for any one having the issue. just a thoght and my 2 cents.

Don't worry DC, I updated the download to include these modified files by default. I thought I did it before, but must have forgotten...

I was having the exact same issue on my website at http://www.dragonstailmotorsports.com
and when I would log into the links page at http://dragonstailmotorsports.com/links/links.php everything worked fine but when I attempted to log into admin.php all I got was

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

across the top of the screen.

I just redownloaded linkman and reuploaded admin.php via FTP to my website and all is A-OK now.

I just recently changed webhosts and this may have had something to do with this but I do not know for sure!
