What does 'valid' install mean ?

version 2.4.2 checks that a valid version has been installed

what is meant by valid version? does it check against a license key perhaps?

No, that doesn't have anything to do with licensing. This "validation update" has been issued because it came to my attention that a few people have downloaded a modified version of HESK that contained backdoors (intentionally coded vulnerabilities) for hackers.

So, the 2.4.2 update verifies some files to make sure the backdoor is not there and that you are running an official and secure version of HESK.
