"HESK does not support PHP 4 anymore. Upgrade to PHP 5."

Hey All,

Ok please bear with me I am new to this topic. :)

I wish to upgrade HESK on our server. Currently we are running v2.2.

The documentation suggests that HESK now only runs on PHP5. I mentioned this to our provider, HostGator, and they informed me:

"Unfortunately, it appears this account is on a shared server.
Php 5 cannot be installed on this server, they would need to upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated."

So, my question for you guys then is what versions of PHP does v2.2 of HESK support? I assume we must currently be on PHP 4 or earlier in order to be using HESK v2.2? I didn't actually ask what version of PHP we are on currently and am not sure how to check. :)

Any help appreciated.

Jake

HostGator still uses PHP 4?!? Perhaps your account is on a very old (and outdated) server?

If this is true ask them to move your account to a shared server with PHP 5 installed. They should do that without asking or charging you anything.

PHP 4 is and old version of PHP (last updated in 2008!) and not supported even by PHP developers anymore, hence HESK does not support it either.

Definitely have them move you to a different server.

I use hostgator and my shared server is running PHP 5.2.17

Thanks guys.

Just found this in the transcript of our conversation too:

"(9:39:37am)Jake:is PHP5 the standard now?
(9:43:10am)John F.:It's not the standard for PHP, a lot of software runs in php 2x, which is what we have installed on our shared servers.
(9:43:28am)John F.:Our shared servers also have the capability to use PHP3, but 4 and 5 require a dedicated server."

I think "John F." doesn't really know what PHP is

PHP 2 is from 1997 and PHP 3 hasn't been released or supported since 2000 (12 years)!

You may want to talk to support again and hopefully get to talk to someone who actually knows what PHP is. I also doubt any of their shared servers use PHP 4 (perhaps as an option alongside of PHP 5).

And yes, PHP 5 *is* the standard and the *only* supported version now.

Perhaps he was talking about PHP 5.2.x and PHP 5.3.x (either will work with HESK).
