Sorry but the counter has major defects

Counter is not accurate and can just change randomly like one site was up to over 300000 and then just showed something like 157000. I am seeing random failures regularly.

Another site had 87 hits last night and then showed 25 today.

This thing is seriously defective. Sorry....

And I really don't know what else to use. It is the only hitcounter that simplescripts provides.

Also your instructions are not accurate. it says to post code to a dir /counter but the install puts the php file in the root of the website.

This website provides support for scripts from PHP Junkyard, not scripts from "Simplescripts".

Simplescripts offers this product to ipage.com customers in the control panel and installs it. That is where I got the program that you wrote and I am whining about.

It's likely your text files are getting corrupted. This happens often with websites hosted on very busy servers (for example too many websites on a server, happens especially with low-cost providers).

Your best bet would be to try a MySQL-based script instead, not a text-based one.

Please provide me a clue or a link to a counter that you would recommend.

Steve

I don't use any so I can't recommend any, but you should be able to find them here.

I looked at about everything there and the only real practical thing I found was one that would require me to set up a counter site myself and then link to it. It looks like there might be an opportunity here for you to fill a vacuum and write a reliable counter.
