Hidden Custom fields

Is there a way to add something into a ticket without the customer seeing it?
I need to have a ref.no. displayed in the ticketlist
Before it can display the ref.no. it has to be submitted into the form first.
Therefore i need a hidden field that i can submit into the ticket.
Im not sure if i makes sense to you but this is what i kinda need.
Basically what im saying is: i need to add something to a ticket in one way or another without the customer seeing it.-)
