I installed hit counter on my webpage. I tried to test it as suggested in the readme, http://laoaglodge71.sqweebs.com/gcount1 ... ?page=test , and it was working.
So now i tried to place it on my webpage. I created a logfile "index.txt"
the logfile "index.txt" is counting, but it is not displayed in my webpage.

Below is the html code i placed on my index.html
<script language="Javascript" src="http://laoaglodge71.sqweebs.com/gcount1 ... page=index"><!--
//--></script>

Below is my graphcount.php setting
// SETUP YOUR COUNTER
// Detailed information found in the readme file

// URL of the folder where script is installed. INCLUDE a trailing "/" !!!
$base_url = 'http://laoaglodge71.sqweebs.com/gcount11/';
// Default image style (font)
$default_style = 'web1';
// Default counter image extension
$default_ext = 'gif';
// Count UNIQUE visitors ONLY? 1 = YES, 0 = NO
$count_unique = 0;
// Number of hours a visitor is considered as "unique"
$unique_hours = 24;
// Minimum number of digits shown (zero-padding). Set to 0 to disable.
$min_digits = 0;

The problem is that your host automatically adds a banner to each page(probably on a free host?) which breaks the Javascript code in the counter.

I'm afraid the only solution is to switch to a host that doesn't add ads to the bottom of all pages.

I dont know if the service provider really adds a banner or not, cause i dint see any banner added to my webpage. So made a blank page in my webpage

http://laoaglodge71.sqweebs.com/blanktest.html

the only contents are the word "Test Page"
and the 2 html code
1. Code for the counter
<script language="Javascript" src="http://laoaglodge71.sqweebs.com/gcount1 ... =blanktest"><!--
//--></script>

2. Code for last modified
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
document.write("Page last modified " + document.lastModified)
// -->
</script>

i also added blanktest.txt log file, properties set to 666

I added the code for last modified to test if script codes are broken.

The testpage "blanktest.html" resulted showing the word "Test Page" and showing the date and time it was modified, but still there are no hit count.

You most likely have the banner blocked in your browser with some type of banner blocking software and or a popup stopper in place that prevents you from seeing it.

Note: your begining script tag is missing.
The other code might be breaking what you write in.

The banner is there for me as well I see the code that loads it into your page.

<!-- BEGIN TAG - 468x60 - sqweebs.com - DO NOT MODIFY -->
<IFRAME FRAMEBORDER=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 SCROLLING=NO WIDTH=468 HEIGHT=60 SRC="http://optimizedby.rmxads.com/st?ad_typ ... "></IFRAME>
<!-- END TAG -->

If this is happening then most likely no js based counter or scripts will work correctly ...

Your best bet get an account with no ads ...

Thanks for the help.

I cant see the banners when i browse it using my computer, but when I browsed it using my aunts computer i can see the banner. any suggestions on how to fix this?

Iam also currently searching the web, looking for free web host that does not have adds and banners. Theres a lot of them but i cant seem to find one that have a large space and file size limit. The biggest i found is at FREEHOSTIA , 250MB space and 500KB file size limit.
My current free web provider (sqweebs) have 2GB life spcae and 8MB file size limit. (which is the reason i chose it).
Any suggestions of a free web provider that you know off.

Again thank you for your time and help.

My suggestion and my only suggestion is to never use a FREE host, why may I ask do you want a FREE host? I can tell you this you will have many problems and restrictions on a FREE host and many scripts will not run at all FREEHOSTIA will not allow you to run a lot of scripts seen it happen with fopen so that means a script like LinkMan will not run correctly at all and a slew of scripts will not run either so I see no point, best bet get a real host there cheep enough.

These days there cheep as dirt if it was like in the beginning of when the Internet was young then yes many could not afford a good host but today hosting is quite cost effective, so I never give advice on FREE hosts they all stink, just get your self a cost effective plan that's all ... you will be a lot happier in the long run trust me, and Klem will tell you the same.

The only way to fix that is to switch your hosting company.

i have swithced to another hosting company

http://laoaglodge71.isgreat.org/

the counter is already working,
the only problem now is the guestbook
viewtopic.php?t=2671&highlight=

thanks for all your help

may i ask if there is a way show both unique and not?
if it does not support this feature, its OK, just asking. thanks.

@DC -"why may I ask do you want a FREE host?"
i am still a noob when it comes to webpage, phps etc... iam still learning and when i get to know more and consider myself knowledgable enough to say i know what iam doing. then that will be the time i will pay for a host. That way i can maximize what iam paying for, and it will also help me decide what features/services i need.

again thanks for your time and help.

Thats understood but noob or not your only going to find much frustration doing it your way, as many things will not work correctly on a FREE host so if you learn anything it will be that you will have a lot of problems as your seeing some of them now, Im not telling you this to be mean im telling you this because I know you will be waisting your time trying to get stuff to work that may just never work.

You have allready run into several snags that have nothing to do with you being a noob they have only to do with your choice of hosting.

GB would normally run no prob but your server does not seem to have what is required as far as I see ...
