Increase number of security numbers

I am using GBook 1.5 since early this year when I upgraded because of the spam I received in the "old" guestbook. Untill last week the spam filter worked perfect

. Now I am receiving SPAM again from fake IP and email adresses

. I am trying to find the way the spammer goes to bypass the security check. To make it more difficult I would like to increase the number of security numbers at the security image. I noticed multiple places for setting the number of security numbers.
I would like to know what files and lines I have to change to increase the number of security numbers from 5 to 7 for example

I guess an increase of security image is also needed when the security numbers are increased.
Thanks, Rob

You'd have to edit inside gbook.php and secimg.inc.php (not just the numbers, but also image size). BUT I wouldn't bother if I was you, increasing the number of digits won't help.
Can you paste a few examples of SPAM you are receiving here?

I would love to send you some examples, but untill now I did not receive any and I deleted the spam messages.
The day before yesterday I made a change in the name of the .txt file which stores the messages. I added some special characters in the name of the .txt file like # and *. Maybe that is why I do not receive these spam anymore.
As soon as I receive spam again I will post them here.
Thanks for the swift reply.
same here

Klemen,
I've been experiencing the same problem. I get spam on the book several times a week. As with the previous poster, I didn't get it when I first installed it and when I first started getting spam it was a few lines of advertisement, but now it's page-long links and random tags of pornographic content...not good.
I'm wondering if there is a solution to this as well as I'd hate to have to switch to another script as I've already painstakingly integrated this into the design of my site.
My site is here

Please don't report SPAM unless you have the LATEST version of GBook installed. The security increases with each version.
Also make sure you have the JunkMark filter enabled.

For a time, I too was receiving some spam entries, so looked in the forum for an answer, and found that one excellent way of eliminating a lot of the spam is to use the block email post by FruitBeard at,
viewtopic.php?t=751&highlight (post #3)
It was written for guestbook version 1.35, but works perfectly in 1.5. It is only a couple of lines of code for the gbook.php and only four for settings.php
It is easy to add email addresses as they are received, and in my case, has (almost) eliminated the spam that was being received.
Perhaps Klemen could add it to a future update (sorry Klemen, yet another request).
The one thing I do like about FruitBeard’s “guestbook” is the smilies on the sign page. (no Klemen, I do not have the nerve!!).

I did consider adding this, but the thing is it's very easy to generate millions of fake e-mail addresses. But yes, if you are having problems with a specific e-mail this could be useful.
