What terms did you try when SEARCHING for a solution: entries, entries.txt

Write your message below:

i want to make some minor alterations to a couple of the messages that have been posted.

i've downloaded the entries.txt file but when i look at it in notepad i see that there are some funny symbols
e.g between the ip address and the username there is a faint, square box which i'm guessing is something to do with it being 'tabbed'.

i'd like to know if i just leave the 'square boxes' and make my alterations and will everything be ok or do i have to do something special like delete them and re-tab everything?

sorry to trouble you with something so trivial but i thought i should ask first before i change anything, as there are rather a lot of posts and i don't want to mess anything up!

btw, thanks for making this excellent script available - have rated it '5' on hotscripts !!

Hi,

Whatever you do, first make a BACKUP of the current entries file.

When downloading the entries file and opening it in Notepad I haven't yet encountered "black squares" but I do know what you mean.

I suggest that you download entries file again and make sure it is done so in ASCII mode (not BINARY)! I you are not sure how here's a short FTP tutorial.

If the ASCII transferred file still has black squares you can edit it anyway, just leave those squares intact. When uploading the file back to the server make sure you have ASCII mode again.

If something goes wrong at least you have a backup available ;)

thanks for your prompt reply !

fyi, i downloaded the entries.txt file in ascii but it didn't make any difference - the squares were still there but anyway i just made a small alteration and uploaded it again (in ascii) and the change was made with no adverse effects.

thanks for your help !!
