MBoard is a simple script not designed for the same purpose as phpBB. It is meant to be a simple way of communicating with visitors on a not-to-busy website. One the other hand phpBB can handle a lot more traffic (MySQL) and is better for larger communities. I definitely recommend phpBB is you need something like this. But many people just don't want big and empty forums, so they like MBoard because of it's pure simplicity.

Well, I prefer thread-based boards.
All the big forums use them ( CGI-solutions, anyway)
So why this change of performance ?

Many people need something small and simple - that is where MBoard does the trick. If you need/want a big forum you should find something more powerful, like phpBB. But many people don't need or want that and they think MBoard is a great solution.

MBoard is great for someone like me who wants to run a message board for a small website but does not want a massive forum eating up their servr space.
Although there are a few things I think could be improved on, on the whole I like it.
