Robot attack on addlink.php

Over the past couple of days or so I have noticed some sort of robot activity hitting my linkman/addlink.php over and over again, using hundreds of different IP addresses from many different countries, but all using the agent name "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)"

I am not getting any notifications that they are adding any links, and nothing is being added to the links file, they just seem to be using up my bandwidth.

Anyone have any idea why they would be doing this? Spamming?

Yes, probably "Spambots" trying to submit your form just like they are hitting all the forms they can find on the Internet. If you have the security number check activated they shouldn't be getting through and are being blocked.

I guessed as much, and yes I have got the antispam security check activated. I have started adding their IP address ranges to my .htaccess file to stop them using up my bandwidth. I have noticed most of them are from Korea and China. :x

Currently my list of IP address ranges to deny is just over 110, and over the last 2 days this has stopped nearly 500 hits!

PHPJunkyard has over 500 IPs banned for spamming or trying to spam
