i have tried and tested logging in using smart ftp, which i could never do before.....

Oh my... haven't noticed until now... you modified file session_test2.php, didn't you? An unmodified file with working sessions would print out "TRUE" ("FALSE" if not), yours prints out "True". Case matters, mate.

Why did you do it? Would have been clear from the start what's wrong if you hadn't.

The problem is, as I suspected, sessions aren't working on your server. I mentioned that in my first reply to your post, but was puzzled as to why the session test file says "True". What I didn't notice is that the "True" was manually changed.

Solution? In your php.ini set
session.save_path = /tmp
you have "/var/lib/php/session" now.
Then restart the server and it should work.

Next time you need my help please don't play tricks, it will save a lot of my time and yours.

Nope i never Modified anything.........


All files were uploaded as they were.......

the only mods i done were once i could not get it to work, where i tried to manualy edit the config.....


Just run the sessiontest.php you uploaded, and it comes up

$_SESSION['test'] is set to: TRUE


so this suggests the seesiontest files you have are wrong......?
please can you check them....


I have checked the php.ini file and confirm you are right...


the session details were as you said....

I have changed this to session.save_path = /tmp


I have restarted my VPS......

and still the verify security image is not displayed.....

The install file at

now works fine because I set the session.save_path to /tmp in .htaccess file.

However, your phpinfo file on southwestscoobies.org.uk still shows /var/lib/php/session as the save_path (and thus sessions/security image don't work). Are you sure you changed it? The correct php.ini file (you may have more than one on your server)? Did you restart the server?

And this is the session test file I believe was modified:

logged into root went into etc folder and edited php.ini


just going through the install on south west customz, and have got into admin cp......

both are on the same server....

The customz works because I changed save_path LOCALLY (just for the "test" folder). Sessions don't work any other place on the server, the master php.ini value is still "/var/lib/php/session" instead of "/tmp". If you changed that in php.ini, did you reboot the server?

The only thing that can be wrong I can think of is - you didn't edit the correct php.ini file. You said you edited the one in /etc folder? See if you have another php.ini in /usr/local/lib/

For alternate locations you can SSH to your server and type "whereis php.ini" in the console.
