Works fine for me, just added Google to your link exchange:
http://www.newenglandsite.com/linkman/links.php

Double-check the URL you are trying to add. If it can't open it check if you can open that URL in your browser.

I fixed it?

Post by Carol »

Well, it's fixed just by playing around with it, trial and error, ya know. So I don't know what fixed it.

But once you submit the link it sends you to the AddLink.php to tell you that the link was accepted, and to refresh the Links page. But the links page is links.php. So you're going to have to create a link I guess back to the Links.php because there is no redirect or auto refresh.

Hi,

Your hosting company runs PHP in "safe mode" which doesn't allow opening remote URLs (http://www.t35.com/faq.shtml). I am afraid LinkMan (nor any other script trying to open remote URLs) will work with your current hosting company. Many free hosting companies have the same limitations.

BTW: Please don't post any more ads on the test message board (http://www.phpjunkyard.com/mboard/mboard.php).

PHP Script

Post by emagine »

How do you know if your hosting company is running in safe mode for PHP scripts? I use Vodahost.

I'm asking because I got the same message when trying to add a test reciprocal link to my site using Linkman.

Thanks,

Can't open remote URL - PHP not in safe mode

Post by saboy1 »

I am hosted with godaddy.com. They are not running PHP in safe mode, and I am getting the "Can't open remote URL" message.

As far as I know GoDaddy has disabled opening URLs in PHP. You can upload this file and post link to it here, just to be sure:

This is not the entire result, it should be a long page with lots of information. Just place a link to phpinfo.php on your server here.

But from what I remember GoDaddy has URL fopen disabled for sure. Find a better host
