Hi,

The phpinfo seems fine, but there's a chance your host has a firewall blocking port 80 for PHP scripts.

If even a simple script like this doesn't work:

Code: Select all

<?php
$html = file_get_contents('http://www.google.com');
echo $html;
?>
it's something you need to check with your host.

Hi you list the test.php page as not showing any data but what is that page your calling? As the page that shows the links in LinkMan is links.php and your showing us test.php out of the LinkMan dir.

Is this the page that has Klems test script in it?

<?php
$html = file_get_contents('http://www.google.com');
echo $html;
?>

If you see nothing then I would say that this call is not allowed
Is this a FREE hosting account my reason for asking is that a lot of FREE accounts have a lot of restrictions inplace that will prevent many scripts from working correctly.

Yes test.php contains the code above!
Yes i have a free account and i doesn't want to pay for things i could get for free (BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE!! ;-)

I contacted the host and told them my problem. That's the answer:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting our Technical Support Department.

Please note that the outgoing connections are stopped for our FREE clients due the security reasons. Therefore you experience this issue. If you want to enable them in your account you have to upgrade your current hosting plan to one of our paid plans via Control Panel Change plan menu(under the Upgrades section).

Please let us know if your have any further questions or problems.

Best Regards,
Max

Security reasons? wtf!? So thats it, i will cancel the account. BTW does anyone knows a free hosting provider that has real full php support without such restrictions?

Thanks for your help! Again!

Ah see so really some of the best things in life are not FREE :-)

What good is an account FREE or not that will not let you do what you want or need to do, you may want to re think your choices. I checked out there site and they have plans as low as $2.99 if that plan will let you run what you want to it just might be an option because as I said in my last post they usully will have a lot of restrictions on FREE ...

Just so you know you will be faced with a lot of script problems when trying to run many scripts out there including LinkMan on a FREE server.

That's the thing with FREE hosts. I used to have a few listed on my "PHP hosting" page (http://www.phpjunkyard.com/hosting.php) but I can no longer recommend any of them.

While I love free things on the Internet in my opinion any commercial website should have a paid domain and be hosted on a reliable (this usually equals "paid") server to be taken seriously by the majority of website visitors. The thing is domains and hosting aren't that expensive. If someone wants to sell you $1000/week vacation and doesn't even invest $10/year in a domain name I wouldn't take the website seriously. Just a tip :wink:

I second the motion I would not take any company on the net seriously that does not have a real host and a true domain, not a sub of some FREE host, so in my opin as well you should really be able to get somthing, as there are many plans that will give you what is needed and at a very low rate.

This was only a problem in the past where companies had to worry about very high hosting rates, as I mentioned in my last post your host has a plan for $2.99 that may just work for you. I would inqire ... any way thats my thoght on this as well your best bet is a real host NOT A FREE ONE ...

So basically around $60 a year for both a domain and a server if one cant or does not want to at least do that, this company really should not be in bussiness. It cost money to be in bussness.

Your seeking FREE support which was given to you on this site, do you realy think its FREE while it is to you its not really FREE PHP junkyard must pay a fee to run this very forum that you are on, as you can see this is not on a FREE host.

So if you do use Klems script not that you have to buy it or donate thats optional, but it is the nice thing to do and you should give him a donation for all the hard work he does here, that at least helps offset the cost of running his site and this server.

Anywho thats my 2 cents.

Try webatu

Post by salsamalaga »

Hi. I had the same problem with free hostings, until I discover webatu free hosting. Now I'm playing with this script at:

Really, best things at life are free, as sex for example. I prefer free sex instead of paid sex. A tip, too (and a bad joke)

Not really only if your using the site as a test or for playing around to get your feet wet a FREE site shoul never be used for business and wouldn't ever be taken seriously if it was not on a real server.

I know I wouldn't ever buy anything from a company that was not on a real server. Plus FREE sites are very slow most times as the bandwith alloted is very limited.

Thats my 2 cents.
